Pearl Harbor

The forgotten day of 1941. As president Roosevelt said it was a date which will live in infamy. The Japanese launched two air attacks on the harbor, as well as some areas around Ohao. Two important battleships were lost. Their names were Arizona and Oklahoma. The Arizona blew up due to an armored piercing shell that went into the forward powder magazine, ripping the ship in two. The Oklahoma was hit with several torpedoes and capsized or rolled over upside down.

The Arizona after the bomb explosion...

Front view of the sunken ship...

The Arizona before world war two.

The Oklahoma after attack....

The Oklahoma before world war two...

Now that you have seen the pictures, now you will see a video of the Arizona getting hit with an armored piercing shell that ripped through her strong hull...

http://youtu.be/ujquq7IU0uY     <This is the link to the explosion video. Remember, this caused over 1,500 people to die so it is not funny.

For us this was our start for world war two. We succeeded and stopped the world wide threat.

These men did whatever they could to stop the threat and unite peace in Europe and Japan.

Why is the Statue of Liberty green?

                                                     THE STATUE OF LIBERTY

Well, I hope you have heard of the Statue of Liberty, because that is what this blog is about. As you know, she is green and is standing on a pedestal which is on Fort Wood located on Liberty island in New Jersey waters. Her "acessories" include a torch in her rigjt hand, and a tablet in her left hand saying, JULY 4, 1776 in French language.

151 feet tall                 SOME FACTS ON THE STATUE......

1.) The statue itself stands 151 feet tall.  (pedestal not included in height).
2.) The pedestal stands 154 feet in total.
3.) The statue contains 62,000 pounds of copper.
4.) The pedestal is 54 million pounds itself.
5.) The seven points on her crown represent the seven seas and continents.
6.) Her greenish color comes from weathering on the copper which is called patina.
7.) Her copper layer is only as thick as a penny...Pretty cool.

                                              MY OPINION ON THE STATUE/ISLAND...

My opinion on the statue would have to be very positive and that I like the statues model. One thing I dislike is that in 1956, they changed the name of the island frome Bedloe's Island, to Liberty Island. I like the name of the old island better then the new one.

                                              THE CONCLUSION...

I think that for one thing, the statue does show freedom and that it also shows us that you are safe and strong. Thanks to the french, we have now, a nice gift of kindness that shows peace and trust with one another.

The Perfect Storm

                                                       HURRICANE SANDY

Hurricane Sandy was a huge hurricane that hit the East coast of the U.S.A and swallowed the Bahamas and Cuba. This storm caused so much damaged to our area that this is considered an event of 2013 we shall not forget. People who were not so much in the area might want to learn about this event because they did not witness this event firsthand.

What I will remember about Hurricane Sandy is how much destruction it caused, and also that it was on my birthday, October 29th 2013. Now that, I will remember for a lifetime. What I think about the hurricane is how much destruction this has caused and the people left with no house and little or no food and water.

AREAS THAT WERE HIT BY THE STORM.

  1.)The Bahamas.
  2.)The Statue of Liberty.
  3.)Ellis Island.
  4.)Cuba.
  5.)New Jersey.
  6.)New York/NYC.
  7.)Florida/Kea West.
  8.)Long Island (part of NYC).
  9.)Gulf of Mexico.
10.)Georgia.
All of these states/places/areas all experienced Hurricane Sandy in some way or were close by to the damage.

                                                  CONCLUSION ABOUT BLOG/STORM.

For this last part, I will like to end it by saying even though we took serious damage, we still can't be eaten by the storm, we have to be stronger then the storm. That is so we all had time to help and care for others as times were tough in this big storm. Still, we surpassed it and stood stronger then the storm.
