Why is the Statue of Liberty green?

                                                     THE STATUE OF LIBERTY

Well, I hope you have heard of the Statue of Liberty, because that is what this blog is about. As you know, she is green and is standing on a pedestal which is on Fort Wood located on Liberty island in New Jersey waters. Her "acessories" include a torch in her rigjt hand, and a tablet in her left hand saying, JULY 4, 1776 in French language.

151 feet tall                 SOME FACTS ON THE STATUE......

1.) The statue itself stands 151 feet tall.  (pedestal not included in height).
2.) The pedestal stands 154 feet in total.
3.) The statue contains 62,000 pounds of copper.
4.) The pedestal is 54 million pounds itself.
5.) The seven points on her crown represent the seven seas and continents.
6.) Her greenish color comes from weathering on the copper which is called patina.
7.) Her copper layer is only as thick as a penny...Pretty cool.

                                              MY OPINION ON THE STATUE/ISLAND...

My opinion on the statue would have to be very positive and that I like the statues model. One thing I dislike is that in 1956, they changed the name of the island frome Bedloe's Island, to Liberty Island. I like the name of the old island better then the new one.

                                              THE CONCLUSION...

I think that for one thing, the statue does show freedom and that it also shows us that you are safe and strong. Thanks to the french, we have now, a nice gift of kindness that shows peace and trust with one another.
